Rose McGowan snags Lovelace role

Time to check that gag reflex, Rose.....

Fresh from, in many eyes, making a bit of a tit of herself after making some interesting comments about the IRA recently, it seems that Rose McGowan hasn't harmed her career with said comments. She's apparently landed the role of porn star pioneer Linda Lovelace in an upcoming film on her life called Inferno.

If you're to believe reports, she apparently fought off competition from Meg Ryan and Angelina Jolie for the role. Whilst the Jolie connection is an obvious one, where the hell did they get Meg Ryan from?! I rather thought that her attempts to reinvent herself as an 'edgy' actress to rid us of memories from all those romantic comedies had fallen flat? I think she'd have been crap in the role personally.

But McGowan seems to have all the right qualities for the role and it should be interestting to see how it turns out. If it's half as good as Wonderland, which was a sort of biography of John Holmes, then it will do very well indeed for itself.

On the subject of Lovelace's most famous role though, namely in Deep Throat, it would be interesting to know just how many people have seen the film. Whatever the figure may be, it seems as though the film has been appropriated by 'proper' filmgoers as a curio from the 70s, and not really regarded with much interest by most porn fans.

It could be because, as a piece of pornography, it's really aged quite badly as things move so quickly in this industry. But as a piece of 'proper' filmmaking, it still has something to offer those looking outside of the mainstream.
